Reel/Winder
Mount Hope roll applications on the reel and rewinder stabilize the web, remove wrinkles, provide uniform cross machine sheet tension and prevent interleaving of the webs after slitting.

Prior to Reel Drum
Installed prior to the reel drum, the Mount Hope roll removes wrinkles and provides uniform cross-machine tension to minimize cross-direction variation in the parent roll.

Prior to Slitters
Installed prior to the slitters, the Mount Hope roll provides a smooth web with even cross machine tension for optimum slitting.

Single Roll Slit Separation
Under six slits, a single Mount Hope roll installed immediately after the slitters provides the guiding action that prevents interleaving of the individual webs.

Dual Roll Slit Separation
Running six or more slits or a difficult product requires a dual roll slit separator system. Mount Hope engineers utilize two bowed rolls to prevent interleaving by imparting a guiding or diverging action to each slit web while maintaining equal path lengths of each slit web.

Zero-Bow Rolls
Mount Hope engineers compensate for gravity and web induced deflection and design the Mount Hope roll to operate perfectly straight in order to replace the segmented rolls throughout the winder. This eliminates the problems associated with the segmented rolls such as coating scratches, grease staining and high maintenance.

Dual Roll Slit Separation
For multiple cuts, Mount Hope engineers utilize two bowed rolls to prevent interleaving by imparting a guiding or diverging action to each slit web while maintaining equal path lengths from the slitters to the winder drum.

Setting the bow direction for dual roll slit separation follows a different principle than single roll applications. Review the dual roll slit separator brochure for instructions, or contact your Stowe Woodward / Mount Hope Applications Sales Engineer for recommendations on your application.

Setting the Bow - Single Roll Applications
Setting the plane of the bow properly is the key to optimum spreading of the web / sheet for quality and productivity.

Fixed Bow Roll
The Mount Hope fixed bow roll has an axle that is curved to a predetermined bow based upon the type of application, weight and type of material to be handled.

Multi-Bow Roll
The amount of bow in the Mount Hope Multi-Bow can be adjusted for optimum operating efficiencies by an operator while running at machine speeds. This unique technology provides paper makers with ultimate fine tuning for varying and changing types weights, widths, moisture content, tensions and draws.

Vari-Bow Roll
The Mount Hope Varibow has a patented split axle design that allows the paper machine operator to change the amount of bow to react to unpredictable spreading requirements and variable conditions encountered when running different weights, grades or types of material.

Zero-Bow Roll
Zero-Bow Mount Hope rolls are designed by Mount Hope engineers to be used before and after slitters and other positions where deflection from a standard covered core is detrimental to product quality.

This specially designed super-rigid roll is pre-bowed and set in the machine to compensate for natural and web induced deflection, therefore running straight during operation. High abrasion resistant grooved sleeves provide superior performance, but do not scratch the sheet coating, leave grease stains or have the high maintenance costs of the metal segmented rolls.

Roll Design Options
Sleeves
Specially formulated elastomeric sleeves provide the dynamic properties and durability for long performance life. Exceptionally abrasion resistant covers such as XL-2000 deliver exponential wearability and long-term economy in extremely high abrasion applications.

Metrol
Mount Hope Metrol metal rolls deliver exceptional durability and are available with chrome, no-stick and tungsten carbide grip coatings.

PTFE Sleeve
Mount Hope offers an optional PTFE outer shrink fit tube for maximum release. The PTFE sleeve fits over the bowed roll rubber cover and provides release properties unattainable with conventional roll cover materials.

Grooving
To ensure sheet-to-roll contact at higher speeds Mount Hope offers a variety of grooving configurations. Standard circumferential grooves, chevron pattern or spiral grooving eliminates air boundaries that can create sheet flotation.

Air Purge
Air Purge systems supply an air pressure of 12 inches water column (1/2 psi) to the inside of the bowed roll to prevent the roll from "breathing" when the roll goes from operating temperature to room temperature thereby drawing contaminants through the end seals.

Sheaves
Mount Hope bowed rolls are available with single or multiple "V" belt drives, timing belts, free wheeling rope and fixed rope sheaves, as well as special sheaves to meet specific needs.

Mounting Brackets
On bowed rolls 7 1/8" and smaller, model "D" pillow block mounting brackets are standard. Bowed rolls 10 1/2" and larger as well as all VARI-BOW rolls are supplied with RE rotatable brackets, which are also available on smaller rolls. Special modified brackets, including remote control bow rotation systems, are available to meet specific customer needs.

Remote Bow Rotation System
Rotatable brackets are available with a remote bow rotation system for remote bow direction control on applications with limited access.

Mount Hope Reconditioning Services
Experienced Mount Hope Service Technicians do a complete visual inspection of each incoming bowed roll. The roll is then disassembled ...roll, bearings, brackets etc. Each component is thoroughly cleaned and inspected for wear or misalignment.

Each bearing is dynamically tested to ensure precision and reject bearings are replaced with new bearings. Each usable bearing is cleaned and regreased with special greases that withstand high speed and high temperature operation.

Prior to reassembly each component and sub-assembly is tested and monitored for quality and reliability.

Guardian
Guardian is a simple, low-cost system that protects against down time caused by bowed roll failure. Strategically mounted accelerometers, thermal sensors and tachometer monitor and record vibrations, temperatures and speed.

The continuous data is digitally displayed for operator action, and stored in a self-contained enclosure for use as a guide for predictive maintenance.
